So last week in class we looked at a few adjectives specifically used for describing personalities. Below are three links which take you to sites where you can revise these words' meanings and also enounter some new ones. The third link is for the 'New English File' website where you will find masses of material related to the course content this year. If you have any questions please write them in the coments box below the post. See you on Thursday!

Hello everybody. I have created this blog so that you can extend your learning outside of the classroom. Think of it as 'interactive homework'.. Over the following months, I will be posting videos, articles, quizzes and short exercises that you can complete online. You can also leave comments and feedback after you've finished watching/reading/doing whatever with the post. Much love.. Josh X

How much do you know about London??
Hello all,
Here is a link to a worksheet which contains lots of different exercises to do with London. There's a quiz, two or three reading exercises, some grammar-based stuff and even a 'London Underground' comprehension check! Some of you may have visited London before, in which case you might have a head-start, but I think that most of the things included in this 'webquest' will be new to you. Obviously, you don't have to do everything. Just choose the exercises you think are most beneficial to your learning needs.. (unless you're in the adolescentes class, in which case you must do what I tell you mwahhaha!!)

Reading Comprehension
Here is an article taken from The Guardian (a British newspaper) about tatoos. It is supposed to be for upper-intermediate level so it should be a challenge to most of you. Before you read the article, complete exercise one. After reading, complete exercise two.
At this point you should have already noticed that some of the words in the text are highlighted in bold. These are pronouns which are used instead of nouns or noun phrases. So, in the first one, for example, "So when did this start?", 'this' refers to Mark's tatoos. Your third task is to decide what these pronouns refer to.
Have fun with it!

Simpsons Episode
And for some light (yet still educational) entertainment, here is a link to a Simpsons episode for you to watch. However, wait until after the class this Wednesday to watch it because I'm going to give you some comprehension questions to answer while you watch it. Bring them into class and we can go through them together...

Listening Exercises
Hi everyone. Well, all five of you! Below are a couple of links to some really useful listening exercises. You basically have to answer five questions whilst listening to the recording, and then there are one or two follow-up activities to do afterwards (the text completion one in particular is very good). The ones I have posted are meant to be easy but if i'm honest, I think they are quite tricky to be labeled 'easy'. If you're feeling brave try one of the 'medium' level recordings. If you want to get an idea of what listening exercises are like at advanced level then try a difficult one, but be warned!!

Using ´used to` and ´to be used to`. When and How?
Ok. So last week and today we looked at the uses of ´used to`in English. We have already dealt with the first meaning- a state or action that regularly took place in an earlier time in our lives, e.g. "I used to watch cartoons after school every day". The second meaning (to be used to) is used when we want to express that something is familiar and no longer strange, e.g. "The people in the UK are used to the terrible weather". Below are several links that give you practice in using both forms. However, the first link only practises the first meaning of ´used to`. This is your homework and must be printed and completed for Wednesday!! Hope this helps!
